Privacy policy

Auto-Shark (“we”, “us”) sells auto parts, engine oil, filters, coolant and related products from our shop in Brampton. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and when you buy from us, why we collect it, and how we protect it. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

• When you send us a request — an order request, a quote request, a part request, a trade enquiry or a message: your name, phone number and/or email, how you'd like us to reach you, your business name (trade enquiries), your vehicle (year, make, model and any details you add), the part or product code you ask about, the quantity and your message.
• When you buy from us: the details needed to invoice and support you — name, company, phone, email, billing address, your vehicle and VIN if you share them, what you bought, and your payments. If you ask us to keep a card on file, it is stored encrypted and is only shown to authorised staff when needed.
• Your vehicle on this device: if you choose “My vehicle”, it is saved only in your own browser (local storage) so the site can show parts that fit. It is not sent to us unless you include it in a request. The list of models comes straight from the U.S. NHTSA vehicle database: your browser sends it only the make and year you chose.
• Basic technical information: to stop spam and abuse of our forms, we keep a one-way scrambled (hashed) form of your internet address, which can't be turned back into the address, and the type of browser you used.

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't use analytics or advertising networks that follow you across other sites.

How we use it

• To answer your request, check fitment, give you a price and prepare your order.
• To invoice you, take payment, keep accurate business and tax records, and handle returns and warranty.
• To send you invoices, statements and reminders about money owing.
• After a purchase, we may send one email asking how we did (a review request). You can opt out at any time with the link in that email, or by contacting us.

We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't use it for marketing without your consent.

Who we share it with

Only with service providers that help us run the business, and only what they need: our website and data hosting, our network and security provider (which protects the site from attacks), our email delivery service, our accountant or bookkeeper, and payment processors when you pay. They must protect your information and may only use it for the service they provide to us. We may also disclose information where the law requires it. Some of these providers may store information outside Canada, where it is subject to that country's laws.

How we protect it

Our system is protected by encrypted connections (HTTPS), staff accounts with two-step sign-in, access limited by role, encrypted storage of cards on file, an audit log of changes, and regular backups. No method is perfect, but we work to keep your information safe and will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm.

How long we keep it

Requests sent through the website are kept as long as needed to deal with them and for our records. Invoices and payment records are kept for at least six years, as Canadian tax law requires. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to optional uses (such as review emails). We'll answer within 30 days. Some records — like invoices — must be kept by law even if you ask us to delete them.
